Overview
A PEGylated form of mechano-growth factor that extends its half-life, promoting muscle repair and satellite cell activation following exercise-induced damage.
Research status Limited human data; preclinical research supports role in muscle repair signaling
Mechanism
PEG-MGF is a PEGylated splice variant of IGF-1 (the Ec isoform) produced by mechanically stressed muscle tissue. It activates satellite cells and promotes their proliferation without triggering differentiation, thereby expanding the pool of muscle precursor cells available for repair. PEGylation extends its half-life from minutes to hours.
Effects reported in research
Reported outcomes, not promises. These come mostly from preclinical (cell or animal) research and have not been confirmed in human trials.
- Accelerated muscle recovery post-exercise
- Satellite cell proliferation
- Localized muscle tissue repair
- Reduced delayed-onset muscle soreness
Safety & unknowns
Very limited human safety data. Preclinical studies suggest localized injection site reactions. Theoretical risk of uncontrolled cell proliferation. Not FDA-approved. Banned by WADA.
Unknowns. No randomized controlled trials in humans have been published, so human safety has not been established in controlled studies.
